These are our new courses for 2010.  This is a two day seminar - Day one is Florida Contractor Course A - CILB Approval #0608142 and ECLB Approval #0800138.  This class will cover your safety, laws and rules, advanced code, business practices and workers compensation requirements.  The rest of the seminar hours will be applied to your general hour requirements.  Day two is Florida Contractor Course B - CILB Approval #0608143.  This class will cover safety, workers compensation, business practices and wind mitigation.  The rest of the hours which include green building and construction economics will be applied to your general hours requirement.

 Advanced FBC - The Florida Building Commission

The Advanced FBC discusses the Florida statutes with respect to the duties and responsibilities that are given to the Florida Building Commission.  Among them are maintaining the Florida Building Code, interpretations, technical studies, declaratory statements, nonbinding interpretations and the prototype building program.  This course satisfies the Advanced Building Code 1 - hour requirement

Construction Economics 

This course addresses important construction economic issues to the contractor. The changing costs of doing business, various cycles and trends and their effects on the Florida contractor will be examined.  Includes the Business Practice requirement.

Construction Laws I 

This course addresses the importance of Chapter 489 to the contractor.  The purpose of Chapter 489 as well as exemptions to the law will be discussed.  Differences between certified and registered contractors and current significant statutory requirements will also be examined.  This course satisfies the CILB one hour Laws and Rules requirement.

Ethics for Construction (A)

This course addresses important ethical issues to the contractor.  The value of strong business ethics will be examined.  Understanding basic business ethics will be taught as well as creating standards for doing business.  Includes the Business Practice Requirement.

Florida Lien Law - Chapter 713 

This course addresses the importance of Chapter 713 to the contractor.  The purpose of Chapter 713 as well as a review of the law will be discussed.  Highlights of the law will be examined and the definition of key terms will be explained.  Includes the Business Practice requirement.

  Wind Mitigation - Protecting Openings

This course addresses wind mitigation methodologies, specifically adding and or strengthening opening protections.  This section will discuss protecting openings with approved systems and how to find approved systems using the Miami-Dade Building Code Compliance Office.  Types of opening protection systems, the advantages and disadvantages of each, as well as wind pressure and impact resistant ratings for these systems will be discussed.  Guidelines for retrofitting will also be examined.  This course satisfies the one hour Wind Mitigation requirement for the CILB.

Workers Compensation (A) 

This course addresses important workers compensations issues to the contractor.  The purpose of Florida’s workers’ compensation system and the critical role it plays to the employer and employee will be examined.  The course will cover what type of rating system Florida uses for worker’s compensation and how we compare to other states.  Includes the Workers Compensation requirement.

Workers Compensation (B) 

This course addresses important workers compensation issues to the contractor. The course covers how rates are determined, the role of the National Council on Compensation Insurance and how premiums can be reduced.  Additionally, the role of the Division of Worker’s Compensation will be explained and specific attention paid to F.S. Chapter 440.  Includes the Workers Compensation requirement.
